FAQs
Essential oils are concentrated extracts derived from plants like flowers, leaves, bark or rinds. They capture the natural scent and flavors of the plant. At Somora, we use a gentle steam distillation process to extract and concentrate these natural essences into potent oils that can be used in aromatherapy, skin care, cleaning products and more.
There are three main ways to use essential oils:
Aromatherapy – Add a few drops of oil to a diffuser to disperse the aroma around a room. This uplifts mood and promotes wellbeing.
Topical use – Dilute oil with a carrier oil and apply to skin. This provides targeted benefits.
Cleaning/household use – Add oils to homemade cleaners and laundry for added cleansing and a light, natural scent.
At Somora, we source organic ingredients whenever possible from ethical suppliers. Our oils are 100% pure and free of synthetics or dilution. We use gentle steam distillation and test oils rigorously for purity. This ensures a high quality, therapeutic grade essential oil.
Pure essential oils should list the Latin botanical name on the label. They will not feel greasy or leave an oil ring when applied to paper. High quality oils also have a strong, concentrated aroma. Somora oils are tested for purity and potency to verify their integrity.
The top oils for beginners are lavender for relaxation, peppermint for an invigorating boost, lemon for cleansing mood enhancement, tea tree for skin health, and eucalyptus for respiratory wellness and congestion relief. These 5 oils offer versatility for a wide range of uses.
Our oils are premium grade and very potent, so they should be diluted properly before ingesting. We recommend adding 1-2 drops into water, tea, soups or muffins rather than ingesting the oils undiluted. As with anything, it’s best to consult your doctor before ingesting essential oils.
To maintain freshness and shelf life, essential oils should be stored in dark glass bottles away from direct light and heat. Keep bottles tightly closed to avoid oxidation. Refrigeration is not necessary but will extend shelf life. Properly stored, most oils will retain potency for 1-2 years.
We recommend pregnant women consult their doctor before using essential oils. Safe oils for pregnancy include lavender, frankincense, mandarin and lemon when properly diluted. Some oils like wintergreen, sage, peppermint and rosemary should be avoided. Proper usage is key for expecting mothers.
Essential oils should always be diluted before applying to skin to avoid sensitization. We recommend diluting 4-6 drops of oil per teaspoon of carrier oil like coconut, jojoba, olive or sweet almond oil. This helps the oil absorb safely. Do a patch test before wider use.
